Welcome To The Chief Executive

Welcome To The Chief Executive

I am pleased to announce that the trustees have recently appointed Alan Wallace to the role of Chief Executive for the Epiphany Trust. We look forward to welcoming Alan to the team, with effect from January.

For your information, Alan will be joining us for the Carol Service at Epiphany House on Tuesday 12th December, should you wish to come and say hello.

With every good wish,

– Debbie Mitchell (Chair to the Board of Trustees)

In the meantime, a few words of introduction from Alan himself…….

Hi my name is Alan Wallace and I have been appointed as the Chief Executive of Epiphany House starting in January 2024. What an exciting challenge!

I come from Northern Ireland and came to England in 1979 to train as a Church Army Officer for the Anglican Church. My ministry has included working as a Youth Worker in parishes and Youth Centres and as a National Youth Officer for the Church Mission Society. I have owned my own company (Events Management) and had the privilege of organising many Christian conferences over the years both nationally and world-wide. I lived and worked in New Zealand where I was an Associate Pastor and Church Manager and then came to Cornwall to be the Chief Executive at Truro Cathedral. Over the last few years I have been Director of the Royal Cornwall Museum and have worked for the Diocese of Truro in various roles, my present position as a Project Support Officer to 4 Deaneries.

I am married to Liz and we have 1 son called Fin who is at University in London studying Film Production.

Over many years I have visited and used many retreat centres both here in the UK and in New Zealand and been inspired, blessed and strengthened in my faith through each one.

I am looking forward to getting to know all the Trustees, Staff, Volunteers and those who use the great facilities here at Epiphany House. My prayer is that the House can continue to be used as a House of Prayer but that we can look at how the House can be sustainable and move forward in our changing world, so that more people come to know about the House and want to utilise the facilities on offer, finding peace and healing within.

– Alan Wallace

Chief Executive

Having emerged from the pandemic with strong financial reserves, the Trustees recognise that – like many similar Retreat and Conference centres – Epiphany House is now operating in a substantially different world, and is now looking to recruit a Chief Executive to develop its mission and secure its long-term future.

The post of Chief Executive is an ideal opportunity for an appropriately experienced and visionary person to build on the successes of the past but devise new ways to help secure the mission and ministry of Epiphany House for the future.

The purpose of this role will be:

– to articulate and implement a vision for the growth and long-term development of Epiphany House in keeping with its spiritual life

– to provide effective leadership, developing both the strategic direction and business planning of the organisation.

For further information and details of how to apply for the post please refer to the Candidate Information, full Job Description and Person Specification found here.

Salary: Circa £55k depending on skills, experience and accommodation requirements.

Closing date: 09/10/2023

Interview dates: 26/10/2023 and 27/10/2023

Celtic spirituality for the changing seasons: a day connecting with God’s wisdom around us through the lives of everyday saints

Celtic spirituality for the changing seasons: a day connecting with God’s wisdom around us through the lives of everyday saints

a Quiet Day led by Revd Canon Dr Lynda Barley

Friday 6th October 2023

10am—4pm

Autumn offers a time of plenty to fill our store cupboards ahead of the colder months but after a busy summer our spiritual store houses may need topping up too. As Christians we give as much priority to contemplation as we do to activity so when at particular times we feel  spiritually drained we need to grasp anew the truth that “after the fire came a still small voice”.

The saints didn’t have easy lives but sustained their stamina as they gave attention to refuelling in the lay-bys of life. We shall drink in their wisdom, look to their example, the world around us and our place in it. We shall use calming bottles, the psalms and the music of Simeon Wood to focus our monkey minds and fill any emptiness.

Surrounded by Cornwall’s seas we can identify with the Breton fisherman who, as he set sail, prayed ‘My boat is so small’. The wind fills our sails afresh as we lift our eyes to look for the rainbow, and the God of surprises may inspire our own psalms of praise and prayer.

About Lynda:

Revd Canon Dr Lynda Barley was formerly Canon Pastor at Truro cathedral and is a trustee of the Sheldon Retreat Centre. She will share from her experiences when everyday business crowds out the quiet.
