Looking at the World: CARM Painting and Prayer Retreat

Monday 5th August 2019 - Friday 9th August 2019

Tree trunk

A residential art retreat led by Pam Bowen and Revd Roger Clifton from the Creative Arts Retreat Movement (www.carmretreats.org). Suitable for all levels of ability, from beginner to more experienced artists. The retreat includes painting and sketching tuition, spiritual accompaniment and plenty of free time for painting, prayer and  relaxation.

What happens on a painting & prayer retreat?
Come prepared to relax, to go deeper with God, to paint, to explore… Take another step on your creative and spiritual journey, alongside like-minded people. Each day begins and ends with a short service of worship and there will be opportunities throughout the retreat for spiritual accompaniment. There will be input and help for your artwork, but also plenty of free time for painting and reflection. Please bring your own art materials, we have a small selection of supplies if you need to top up.

Retreat leaders
Pam Bowen studied art at City of Coventry Teacher Training College. In recent years she has concentrated on Flower Painting and Sketchbook work. She regards painting and sketching as a type of meditation and enjoys sharing her knowledge with all abilities. She will introduce the use of the sketch book as a story of ones life in pictures and words. Retreatants will have the opportunity to explore many mediums as well as their own favourite.

Canon Roger Clifton, after starting life as a chartered accountant, spent thirty five years in Anglican parish ministry. His final post was as team rector of a market town and its surrounding villages in Wiltshire, before he retired to Bath in 2010. He has been involved with CARM since its earliest days, and his interests include painting, cycling and mountain walking.

Retreat at Epiphany House
Smaller than some retreat centres with just 12 guest bedrooms, Epiphany House is an historic, comfortable and
peaceful house set in lovely gardens. Each bedroom has a hand basin and is close to bathroom facilities (bathrobes are provided). Our catering team enjoy a well-deserved reputation for good food and all meals will be freshly
prepared in-house.
