We're very excited to announce that this year's events are being organised by Epiphany House's very own Chef Mollie Foster! In her years as a chef Mollie had Keith Floyd working for her and she was mentioned in his book; she worked as a Charter Yacht Chef for 14 years, travelling all over the world; ran the Lee Abbey Tea Cottage where she won an Egon Ronay award and they were voted in the top 10 in the country by the Independent Newspaper; as well as cooking for the Kennedy Family! Now she is here with us and is a very valued and vital member of the Epiphany House team.
The
Rotary club of Truro Boscawen is to hold its annual 'Young Chef' competition at Richard Lander School on Thursday the 8th of December from 8:45am.
Budding stars of the competition will this year have two well known chefs as judges.
Andy Appleton, Head Chef at Fifteen Cornwall, seen recently on the ITV show 'Best Dish'. will join with
Dale Macintosh, Head Chef at Bustopher Jones to judge the talented youngsters as they strive to be the 2011 local winner with the chance of going through the Country-wide final, as well as receiving £25 vouchers from Bustopher Jones, £25 from Epiphany House and prizes for 1st (£30), 2nd (£20) and 3rd (£10) places from the Rotary.
There will be 16 contestants from years 7, 8 and 9 at Richard Lander School entering the competition.
Each contestant has to plan and shop for a three course meal for two within a pre-set budget, and then cook it within two hours. They will be marked out of 75 on: choice of dishes, planning/skills used, neatness and hygiene, use of time, presentation of tables, meals being cooked at the correct temperature, presentation of the dishes and, of course, the taste of all three courses!
Standards at the competition have always been high showing the creative skills of many youngsters in the area. Last year fifteen young people took part in the competition at Richard Lander School and was won by Molly Pearce.
Epiphany House is proud to support Mollie in this and develop our links with the Rotary Club; started with Mollie and a Trustee, and links with Bustopher's as two of our bank staff have worked there also. We are also keen to encourage emerging young chef talent; having seen one of our Kitchen Assistants, Jake Symons, come 2nd in one of the County Young Chef heats and go on to attend Catering College.
Media representatives are welcome to send a reporter and/or photographer to the event.
